Oriol Sàbat was born in Barcelona in 1967. He started studying drawing at the academy El Taller, in Urquinaona square in Barcelona, in 1980. In 1991 he completed a degree in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. Since then he has cultivated drawing, painting, sculpture, etching and writing. Since 1988 he has had twenty-three individual exhibitions and numerous other collective ones, both in galleries and in private and public institutions. He has won several awards including the National Juan Ramon Masoliver Award in the year 2000. Among the people that have written about him are L. Cirlot, J. Corredor-Matheos, Albert Mercadé, Àlex Mitrani, J.M. Cadena, Susanna Rafart, J. Vidal Oliveras, Pep Forns, Raül Maigí, Conxita Oliver and Sílvia Muñoz d'Imbert. Sàbat is member of Catalan Writers' Association (ACEC).
